Cast Iron in Copenhagen

A gate or a gateway is a point of entry to an area enclosed by walls, rocks, mountains or other things blocking entrance, or a moderately sized opening in some sort of fence.

The word derives from the old Norse "gata", meaning road or path, and originally referred to the gap in the wall or fence, rather than the barrier which closed it.

Copenhagen has many of such cast or wrought iron gates and I have captures some of these forged or cast gates. The architecture and style differs but the material is the same.

Odd Fellow Palace (1751-1757)

This stately mansion (called both Berckentins Palace, Schimmelmann's Palace and Odd Fellow Palace) was built for the German Count Christian August Berckentin (1694-1758) in the years 1751 to 1757 with Johan Gottfried Rosenberg (1709-1776) as an architect. The main building has three floors and a mansard roof: The mansion is nowadays best known as the Odd Fellow Palace, and the building and the two pavilions have through time been the setting of many events. 

The palace was heavily damaged by a fire in 1992 and the architects Karsten Rønnow (f.1932), Gunilla Rønnow (born 1947) and Jens Christian Varming (f.1932) let the property restore from 1992 to 1995.

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (1882)

The gates to "Glyptoteket". The gate is from 1882 and has therefore no connection whatsoever to Nazi-Germany even though it is ornamented with a swastika. The swastika was a normal and common symbol and the symbol of Carlsberg before the second world war. 

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Glypto-, from the Greek root glyphein, to carve and theke, a storing-place) is an art museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The collection is built around the personal collection of Carl Jacobsen (1842–1914), the son of the founder of the Carlsberg Breweries.

This beautiful gate is located in Østerbro, Copenhagen. The building is from around 1890.
